Slim Jim
Who or what was 'Slim Jim'

|
The two clips from the TV advert (1950s) above portray a woman in command of the situation presumably because she is in command of her figure. The actual girdle is not shown although 'pantie' and 'natural waist & hi-line' are mentioned. It appears that 'Slim Jim' was a manufacturer's name. It still is today, however, I cannot believe that it is the same company as in the 1950s. The 'modern' (although this style has been around for at least four decades) girdles are show below. The distinguishing features on all these girdles is the chevron pattern of the front elastic panels.
The garment on the right looks decidedly flimsy and modern. |

Certainly, the name 'Slim Jim' has been applied by various other companies to a product line of their own:
|
Blair made a girdle marketed as 'Slim Jim' and Camp in the US also marketed their formidable panty-girdle (model 91245) as a 'Slim Jim'. The rather serious Dutch, whose Camp branch made the same style of panty-girdle, never called it anything so flippant. Cordelia of Hollywood also marketed a 'Slim Jim' panty-girdle. |
